Braham Covenant Church celebrates 125 years

Braham Evangelical Covenant Church would like to invite all who are interested to attend the 125th Anniversary of the church on Sunday, Sept. 21.

125 years ago, in 1883, a group of Swedish settlers organized the Braham Mission Church. About 1865 a group of early pioneers in the Braham area began church meetings in various homes. In the fall of 1876 they organized in the Mission Society.

The first building was a “large but simple structure” on Co Rd. 4 in Kanabec County in the area where the church cemetery continues to be located on the north side of Braham. It was moved into the town of Braham in 1900 and is the building where the current VFW and Dance Place are located. The church incorporated in 1928 and become part of the Covenant Conference.

Many changes have taken place over the years including the building of a new church building in 1967, located at 508 North Broadway. A new addition was added this summer to provide handicapped access. The addition was mainly built by members of the church and plans are for completion in time for the Anniversary celebration. It provides another reason to celebrate God’s goodness to the church and Braham community at this time.

The theme of the conference is “Cultivating God’s Kingdom in Braham for 125 years”.

This takes us back to the early farming settlers who founded the church as well as the honoring the current farmers in this area while giving praise for God’s “Harvest” in the Braham area.

Plans for the day include a service at 10:00 AM, an 11:30 AM Swedish meatball dinner and another service at 1:00 PM. The services will have speakers from the Covenant Conference, music for all ages and remembrances by members and friends of the church. There will be displays of pictures and memorabilia from past years.

Please plan to join in the celebration. If you have questions, call the church at 320-396-2334.
